HUSKER POWER!!! Hi, my name is Nicole Goss. My husband (Adam) and I are originally from Omaha, Nebraska. We have been Husker fans since…well, birth! My husband is the reserved, quiet type. Patient and calm in nature, but when it comes to Husker Football, Adam becomes a true die hard Husker fan. Loud, proud, and passionate about the game. This past year, Adam joined the United States Air Force as a police officer in the USAF Security Forces. We were told in May that we would be stationed at Aviano AFB, Italy for the next three years. Extremely excited and a little nervous about our life’s new journey, we knew we would only have one major obstacle to overcome. No more Husker Football game day celebrations with fellow Husker fans, tailgating, the flying of the sacred Husker flag off our balcony on game day, losing our voices due to 3 hours of non-stop cheering for our beloved Big Red, and the ultimate experience…being a mere wave in the sea of red at Memorial Stadium on game day! This has proven to be the biggest and most challenging adjustment for Adam. Even half way around the world, he still bleeds Husker red and is faithful with keeping track of his beloved Huskers. He listens to the games either on internet radio, checking ESPN.com, and if he’s really lucky, catching the occasional rare showing of the game at 1 am (Italy time) on AFN TV. Although we’ve only been here for four months now, everyone knows how big of a Husker fan Adam is. Even people who do not know Adam, know him as “That Husker Guy.” His wardrobe consists mostly of Husker gear and his greatest pride is his Husker grill cover. His Staff Sergeant even bribed Adam with having a “day off” is he denied his love for the Huskers. Adam respectfully replied, “Sir, I’m sorry. Those words will never come out of my mouth. I bleed Husker red.” I can tell you now that he is managing and making it through the season like a trooper. But above most all, I am so proud of the commitment he has made to serve his country. Adam is one of the most caring, compassionate, hard-working, and passionate people you will ever meet. He loves Husker Football and he loves his country. We are the Goss’s and this is our story. Staying loyal to Husker Football half-way around the world!
