Bo Pelini had a press conference this past Wednesday where he talked about 2008 recruiting class, the recruiting "hype", and "southern speed" Concerning the new Husker players for '08, he said that everyone is starting out the same. The walk-ons and scholarship players are have the same shot at starting and getting playing time. This might scare some of the scholarship players - but rightly so. With the constant competition from every player on the team comes the absolute best football that Nebraska can muster. We're gonna need every competitive edge we can, right? True to form, Bo didn't mention any individual player's names during the conference. Pelini was also asked about how good he thought the recruiting class is. He said that everyone wants to assign numbers to everything and make comparisons. He doesn't know how good the kids are that he and the other coaches recruited. Coach Pelini stated that he'll know how well he recruited in two or three years.

Is there a misconception that most football players from the south have speed? Bo differs from this opinion, saying that there are definitely players from Nebraska who are very quick. Pelini said, "I know that there are a lot of guys in the state of Nebraska that can run." Pelini also commented about why it is important to recruit football players from Texas and the recent onslaught of de-commitments to the University of Nebraska. Source: Journal Star Pelini article
