Worst Nebraska Defense Ever!

The tackling is not at a college level.  Of the entire front seven, WC is the only player who deserves a blackshirt, but I think it's time to do away with that tradition.

There is zero pass rush, unless #51 blitzes.  The DBs did break up some passes, but they also make all of the tackles.  The front four is the worst in recent Nebraska memory....nobody to fear.

Giving up 650 yards to an offense with a freshman QB with a jacked up ankle is nothing short of pathetic.  Cosgrove was run outta town for less.

Taylor Martinez can't produce 95 yard drives every time.  I don't blame him for this loss.

    • Well. Perhaps you had the chance to go to a Nebraska game in the Rose Bowl. Not likely to return anytime soon.

650 yards allowed vs. UCLA? How do you think that our defense would fare vs. USC or Oregon?

  • I have to agree with most all the comments on this thread.  Our defense does not appear to be getting better year to year.

Recruiting may be a struggle, but every school has to compete for decent players.   Is it possible that we don't know what those look like coming out of high school?  I mean, we are running what appears to be a very clean program full of all-american kids, but the sad situation may be that you can't win football games with them.

I also am beginning to believe that we can't be a training ground for new coaches anymore.  I'm with several others who think it's time to quit screwing around hoping these rookies learn on the job and start raiding successful teams for their coaches.

Beck beating us silly whiile at Kansas during the clown years hardly counts as a successful career as an offensive coordinator.  I like the guy and all, but this is NEBRASKA.  A traditional football powerhouse with significant financial and fan support.  How can we not be attractive to quality assistant coaches any more?

I am slowly coming around to the reality that Bo is over his head.  He may not realize it himself.  Let's face it he's been in the job for 5 years now and probably thinks he has it dialed in.  He most likely has a routine, has his staff stabilized, and is relaxed and thinking he has the job figured out.

One problem, Bo.  We have a "system" and a "process" and first rate facilities.  Only one problem.  We keep getting beat by teams like UCLA, Northwestern, and South Carolina.  Not exactly top 10 finishers there, are they.

My gut tells me that if Bo can't post something better than 9 wins this season, he better be looking for another job, or at least be ready to make major coaching changes.

One sign of the apocalypse?  I remember posting during last season that it appeared Taylor Martinez needed some position coaching.  I asked the question "Surely we have someone on staff to teach our quarterback besides graduate assistant Joe Ganz?"  Sadly, the answer was, "No, we don't."  I mean, I like Joe and all, but this is NEBRASKA FOOTBALL.  We need coaches that match the expectations developed over the history of the program.

I find it somewhat disturbing that we don't even have coaches with enough experience to help our players learn their positions.  If we have the coaching drought in other spots that we have in quarterbacking, then it is no wonder we look so poorly on the field.

Perhaps we need to send the entire team to camps next summer so someone can teach them how to play football.

    • Can't win without criminals?

Tom Osborne figured that out at the end of his career and nobody cared.

Allen Pinkett figured it out and got suspended from his job!

I'll take a "clean" 8-4 or 9-3 team with a calm coach all day long.

    • I've been saying that Bo is not the answer for years now.

Are some of you actually out of the KoolAid?

Bo simply is not that bright....but he's a 1000X better coach than John L Smith or Al (most overrated coach in college football) Golden.

Face it. Frank Solich is doing a GREAT job at Ohio U. We'd have been MUCH BETTER OFF WITH HIM!

      • I agree about Frank.  Problem was that we were all used to winning 10 games a year and when Frankie posted that 7-7 season, the fans and administration freaked the hell out.

I have a feeling that once Frank brought Bo on as defensive coordinator, we had turned a corner.  Then Peterson fired him anyway and we had one heck of a time finding a coach who was willing to follow Tom Osborne.  We wound up with the Clown, and everybody knows what happened from there.

If Frank and Bo were given  a few years back then, I think we would be looking at more wins in the last 10 years.  Purely speculation, but Frank has sure done well at Ohio, and I am not sure Bo was ready for head coaching 5 years ago so he could have worked his way into the position and learned some stuff along the way.

        Ahhhhh, ain't hindsight wonderful.

  • Trying to think about the Defense situation and offense. is it possible that Bo is a very good coach but he and this staff just can not recruit for what ever reason. The whole group just seems to be out maned. Each year we seem to need more smarts, game planning we have no brute like UCLA did to us. We have a few good men but we got pushed around. Those linemen have to be embarrassed going back to see their girl friends. I took my flag down today and didn't wear any Nebraska stuff. Let everyone think about Iowa, Wisconsin and Arkansas

    • Arkansas hired John L Smith as their interim coach.

That was their kiss of death.

I called Feinbaum a month ago and warned Arkansas fans to expect the worse amidst their giddiness re home games with LSU and Bama.

They'll be lucky to win 8 games.

Lousiana- Monroe simply dominated the second half of that game. The hogs got slaughtered.

  • I'm not buying any more Blackshirts items. None. No More. Because there are no more Blackshirts. The Blackshirts are as ghostly as the bones image they convey. The Blackshirts are Dead Shirts. They are images of a time long long ago.

    • Our seniors were 9 years old the last time we won a conference football championship.

Starting to look like Notre Dame fatigue is setting in.

What "big name" coach would want to move to Lincoln?
