Another Weekend, Another Pair of Wins!

Shamelessly copied from the Omaha World Herald:

IRVINE, Calif. — It’s not that it was unlikely that Hannah Werth got the final point Saturday in both of top-ranked Nebraska’s victories: a 25-12, 25-19, 25-13 win against Colgate and a 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 victory over UC-Irvine.

What’s strange is that Werth had one service ace in each match, and both came on match point to help the Huskers improve to 5-0.

The senior outside hitter from Springfield, Ill., also finished with a match-high 15 kills in the opener and 10 in the second match. She also led the Huskers with 12 digs in each match. Allison McNeal added 10 kills while Lauren Cook notched 37 assists, helping NU to a .369 hitting percentage against the Raiders, who hit .083 and fell to 0-7. Against the Anteaters (2-5), Morgan Broekhuis paced the Huskers with 16 kills while hitting at a .517 clip. Cook added 39 assists and 11 digs for NU, which hit .410 for the match. Next up for the Huskers is the Ameritas Players Challenge at NU Coliseum. The Huskers open with Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, Nebraska faces Duquesne at 4 p.m. before Saturday’s finale against Kentucky at 4 p.m.

  • I was glad to see so many backups play in the Colgage game, especially Fien.  We don't need another unhappy player transfering for lack of playing time, like Taylor Simpson recently.  The Huskers have a pretty good team if no-one gets injured.  Liberal substitution will make them even better later in the season.
