An impressive win by the Huskers on New Years Day 2009. Both the Huskers and Tigers were on an upswing for the season and somebody had to lose, glad it wasn't us.

Any questions about the Defense being qualified to wear the Blackshirts anymore? My God did those guys show some heart! 5 sacks were impressive, but the final sack that basically won the game was one of the biggest that I can remember. Hagg had 2 incredible plays, back to back that sealed the deal. Suh was a monster of a playmaker again. Sacking the QB, stuffing the run, Blocking a field goal. I hope that he sticks with his original statement that he will be back for his Senior season. Although after yesterday, you know that the scouts will be looking his way. Another beast was Ty Steinkuhler with back to back impact plays and terrific pursuit all game. There weren't many tackles made that he wasn't in the picture.

The offense showing up for the second half really made my day. I was a bit concerned with the way Clemson was flying around stuffing our running game, but Ganz once again figured out how to move the ball. A couple of turnovers caused headaches in the game, but overall the team overcame the miscues without a hiccup and moved the ball when they needed to. The one play where Ganz went down and Witt came in, once again reminded me that there should be no chance that he will be the QB next season. He just cannot hang on to the ball. I know that 1 play should not be enough to pass this judgement, but there have been the same issues EVERY game he has come in to this season.

Q. Castille has finally made a believer of me. All season long I've been down on him because he couldn't hang onto the ball. Yesterdays performance has changed my opinion of him. He can be a gamer. He needed to prove that he can be a feature back and carry a load for an entire game. He succeeded. Lucky made a couple of catches for positive yardage, but neither he nor Helu could get things going. Castille is a banger up the middle and made some great plays, even on the muffed option he was hawking the ball in the endzone. He has great heart and I hope to see more of him next year.

This season has had it's ups and downs, but it has made us a stronger and more focused team. I'm excited for the next few seasons to see if the emotional leader of the team in Coach Pelini can build his team around his philosophy and get us back to the National Prominence that this program deserves.

I agree Shayne. The Blackshirts were playing with a heart and intensity that has been missing for the better part of the last 4 to 5 years. I can't wait till these guys get another spring camp in under the Pelinin Dogma of D.

You're right Shayne - the blackshirts are definitely back! I was having some worries throughout the game, but we came to play and never gave up. Pelini has the showings of developing into a great head coach - he is surely off to a GREAT start!
