Live From BugahaWest: Tapping the brakes

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

We sit here two days away from game day.  Am I excited, oh you better believe it.  However with the Gebbia transfer my excitement is muted.  Yes, I think a workable calm towards a realistic look at this thing is needed.  I have faith in the coaches and believe they made the right call at QB.  However, no matter who won the battle the said player would have been taking their first live snap in 2 years and first one in college football.  I am hoping…

Live from BugahaWest: A Spring Game for the Ages

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

As some of you know I stayed up Saturday for the spring game.  I had a bit of luck in that my smart tv has the tunein app on it.  Well, an added piece of great luck is that my app has a link to the Husker IMG network.  So yes I was able to listen to the game and think things through.  Well, the more I thought, the more my thoughts were I have to see this thing somehow, some way. Well, Sunday afternoon came and I found a way.  I don't want to rehash the…

Live from BugahaWest: Volume 100 and a Frost Warning

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

I started this whole deal of blogging in June of 2008.  Back in those days the new hire was Bo Pelini and the debate was between Pelini and former Nebraska QB turned coach Turner Gill.  Who knew all these years later with a long hiatus that #1we 00 would be discussing another new head coach. So Scott Frost is our new head coach and from what I have read and heard so far a new beginning to a better future is on the horizon.  On that note we all have to slow…

Live from BugahaWest: The end of the year/era and what 's next (vol 99)

Dear fellow Husker fans,

Sorry it's been awhile but the last couple of weeks in my real world has made time to write tough. Granted the product on the field was never anything anybody would want to write home about. It is interesting the feelings or lack there of that I had over the past few weeks in terms of football. I felt nothing, not anger, not sadness, not hurt, nothing. In my lifetime of sports fandom I never experienced something like that in regards to keeping an eye on my…

Live from BugahaWest: I took a week off for early trick or treat. Got tricked Saturday. (Blog volume #98)

Dear fellow Husker fans,

These are interesting times we are in as Husker fans. I'm going to try not to ramble today but the following thoughts have been nagging at me for a few days so I think I better get them out and get your ideas.

1. On FB pages I like I have seen what I perceive as people openly hoping for failure so that the only thing that can happen is Riley get fired. Now realize this is college football, not the NFL. In the NFL you can overpay for free agent players,…

Live from BugahaWest: The Bye Week

Dear fellow Husker fans,

I know, I know I hear it from the loyal readers.  Where were you last week?  I thought of writing something up after OSU but by the time the thought came up Bill Moos was hired on as AD.  So I spent the week looking into the new AD and listening/reading articles from people who are smarter to me into this whole deal.  A couple things hit me the most when looking into things.  #1 is that he is 66 and this looks like to be his last stop before retiring back to a…

Live from BugahaWest: It was ok, for a half

Dear fellow Husker fans,

At halftime of this past week's game, the score was reasonable.  In fact, take away the usual Tanner Lee pick 6 and Nebraska is ahead.  Then the second half started and it seemed like Wisconsin made all the halftime adjustments while our beloved Big Red regressed.  Their freshman looked as good as Barkley from PSU.  That kid by himself is going to make the next 3 years rough. But, I don't really want to cry about the game, I want to look at the pre-game aka…

Live form BugahaWest: Let's see where this one goes

Dear fellow Husker fans,

This past Saturday reminded me of the fun Saturdays that myself and a group of my friends had in college. The chat was rocking for the game and to enjoy a game with fellow Husker fans and football fans in general was a great way to enjoy a game.  So, since I want to keep this kind of short, time for a quick story.

As I mentioned earlier, this game reminded me of college football Saturdays at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  My college roommate and…

Live from BugahaWest: A day late but still will be great

Good morning fellow fans of the Husker Red,

Talk about your interesting happenings since the last time I was able to enjoy time with all of you.  Eichorst is out, Nebraska beats Rutgers, and the world does not end Saturday.  Before I get started, I know some might ask, what happened?  I waited all day yesterday for some bit of fun talk from you and you didn't show up.  Well, what happened is this weekend, my lovely wife celebrated her 29h birthday (again) so in between a birthday…

Live from BugahaWest: Well, the Sun did Rise Sunday

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

Well, as the title of this week blog says, the sun still came up Sunday.  This was a saying my dad would tell me after Husker losses when I was a in junior high and high school.  During those days my dad and I didn't see eye to eye on everything, you know, me being the know it all teenager and he being the wise dad that I thought didn't know what he was talking about.  I was thinking about discussing the game a bit this week, but why bring up bad memories.  I…

Live from BugahaWest: A first half of yuck, a second half of hmm

Dear fellow Husker fans,

I mentioned last week that I didn't think there was any way that I was going to be awake for the game.  With the ways things have been going in my work life (more depressing than the game mind you) I went home Saturday morning and as my beloved bride puts it,"went to bed and was out before my head hit the pillow."

As for the game, I want to point out the first thing I saw was the final score and I was feeling pretty good.  Then I saw the scoring…

Live from BugahaWest: What exactly was that? Oh yeah, a win

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

Where to start with what we experienced Saturday.  There was a o-line that kept Tanner Lee upright all day and a defense that couldn't stop a running nose.  There was something we thought was going away, a balanced offense.  There was a clear #1 at running back, maybe, heck just add the question mark?  Are you happy now?  There is a couple truths today I think we all can agree on.  #1.  We are not fans of Texas.  #2.  We are not fans of UNLV.  Let's roll then…

Live from BugahaWest: It's 2017, where have I been for the last few years.

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

It's amazing how sometimes things come together and a person gets a idea to restart something that was once long forgotten.  It happened not too long ago when I had a email and a post on my facebook account bringing me back to my Husker fandom home.  Many of you probably don't remember me, but from 2008 to 2013 I was a regular/semi-regular blogger here racking up 89 blog posts in that short amount of time.  Anyways, life has a way to get in the way for…

Live From BugahaWest: A Merry Christmas and Win in Jacksonville

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

As we have now come to bowl season I do things a bit different than others.  Some give out best of ideas, me personally I give out virtual gifts under my Christmas tree.  Granted this year's real tree is plenty smaller than previous years (the 6 footer had to give way to a smaller 2 foot tree (that's what lack of room does) but that just means the floor is overflowing with gifts.  So, without hesitation, lets get to the gift giving.

First gift is one…

Live from BugahaWest: This year has been a tale of one thing, resiliance

Dear fellow Husker fans,

This week I will not be doing game recaps because everybody saw, read, or caught up on the last two games.  You had the loss to MSU and the instant classic vs Penn St.  What I want to talk about is something I see in this team and have seen in past teams that we didn't get during the lost era under Billy C.  This team has a don't give up attitude.

Take the Michigan St game.  Look at this game in this way.  MSU had 3 scoring drives where their offense…

Live from BugahaWest: Do you believe in miracles? Yes. Two weeks in a row, heck yeah.

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

I have a confession to make.  The past two weeks I have not watched the games.  I have been a good boy and been listening to them on internet radio.  It's quite fun to hear Matt Davison go crazy (watch Matt turn red on youtube.  Video is from the BigTenNetwork and they talk to MD and JW).

Let's start with the NW game.  I had a rough work week so I went to bed right away and really didn't wake up until the 4th quarter.  To make things fun my laptop was…

Live From BugahaWest: What Happened? Purdue game was fine but then Minny

Dear Fellow Husker fans,

I didn't get around to posting after Purdue (funny how life gets in the way, even for 13 days).  I did pay attention and even during the bye week I watched the N'western/Minny game.  There were times during that game where I was thinking, oh boy, the gauntlet is going to start a week early.  Again, I hate it when I am right.

As for Minny I was thinking this was going to be fun.  Due to a quirk in my work schedule I was able to stay up all day yesterday…

Live from BugahaWest: When football is put in its proper place

Dear Fellow Husker Fans,

I have to say neither did I watch or listen to the game this past weekend.  Here's the story.

The beloved bride and I were out running errands with the express thought that we would get home mid-second quarter or so.  I was having my cellphone update me play by play via yahoo sports app.  Things were going well and I was excited to fire up my laptop and listen to the game.  Fired up moment came to a end quite quickly.  Phone rings and its my mom and…

Live from BugahaWest: SDSU and Bye Week "controversy"

Dear Friends in Husker Red,

I waited till the last minute this time around due to real life kicking my butt and in a way it helped.  I was also doing a wait and see on the QB dealings.  So, let's get rolling and talk SDSU and the bye week.

I know people look at the end of the 1st quarter and SDSU leading.  They also look at the Zenner kid practically winning the Harlon Hill trophy against the Blackshirts.  What they also saw was a win which counts the most.  A few…

Live from BugahaWest: The sun still came up Sunday morning

Dear fellow Husker fans,

I don't even know where to start this week.  I was cheering loud and proud, getting all giddy after NU went up 21-3.  I should have known then but my heart was out-running my mind.  The 21 points were actually a smoke screen, a ruse if you may.  I should have known as that third quarter kept on going and going.  Have any of you ever been to a sporting event where you were so downhearted you actually watched the clock ticking down instead of the game?  Last…
