what happens now??

I'll blog later, but where do the Huskers start with the rebuilding process? The ISU game was probably the most painful to watch that I've ever seen. I've defended Zac Lee as a starting QB, but now I see wholesale changes needed, and his is the first to go. Helu might need some bench time too, if only to get that shoulder healed. GBR

  • Poor Execution, too many dropped balls by the receivers, bad call to keep Helu in since he injured his shoulder leading to all those fumbles--really we won that game 28-9. We hurt ourselves, unfortunately the offense had no excuses this week, no weather issues, just plain bad execution. It would not have mattered what plays were called if you cannot hold onto the ball, this week is definitely on the offensive players specifically our RB's and WR's. Can't say that Lee was the problem this game, ball control has got be the first item to be fixed. It is sad that a defense that is on the field almost the entire game cannot get anything positive from the offensive side of the ball....Suh per man can't do it all
  • I agree Daemon, expectations are always high after a winning season and a great Bowl win. Expectations by the team, unfortunately is causing some heartache with the fans. They started believing their press releases and got complacent. Now they have to work their asses off to get to the proficiency they should be at,this far into the season.

    More to come...

  • Like my buddy Shayne, I will be blogging later in the week, but my initial gut reaction is that offensively our beloved Big Red is just tryi9ng to find a identity. You guys talk of Helu being hurt, but there is in fact a bigger injury along the offensive line, Javarios Burkes once again hasn't been able to play this year and for this game especially, Jacob Hickman was next to non-existent. Offensively if these guys can move the ball, avoid stupid mistakes like penalties and turnovers things will be ok. Also, I do have one jab to throw at the defense, cause a turnover already. I think its now 8 quarters without a forced turnover. Not good.

Time to right the ship and turn it around next week. Still have a shot for 7 or 8 wins.
  • Thank you Rossy! I think that the staff is doing a fine job of coaching. The main issue is maturity on offense. Learning a little faster style of play would be a good thing. There doesn't seem to be any real sense of urgency on Lee's part. Don't think its institutional or due to the complexity of the offense, I really think that he (Lee) has issues with reading Defenses. Checking off on practically every down isn't running the plays called by the coordinator.

The Huskers are still a work in progress. We had a decent year last year due to an outstanding QB and the sheer force of will of Coach Pelini.

We may have another year before we can honestly say that the Huskers are back. But it will come
  • Here is where I am. We don't fire the coaches, we don't scrap the offensive scheme in the middle of the season, we don't bench half the starting offensive players to see if some unproven younger kids can create miracles, we don't talk trash about a second year staff trying to right our program. What we do is stand behind our coaches and team. We support them and let them know we are behind them to get this figured out and fixed. Will the coaches make some starting player changes? Maybe, based on Bo's comments after the game we may see some personnel changes. We pick up the pieces and work to win the Big 12 north. If the expectation was to play for a National Champtionship in year 2 we need to get real.
  • Guys... There was nothing wrong with the play calling in this, or any other game this season. The losses can ONLY be attributed to piss poor execution. Watson is the guy we need calling plays, but he definitely needs to slim the playbook and show the nuts to make wholesale changes to the personnel on the field.

The staff gets paid to put the right guys on the field, and for some reason, arrogance or stupidity, they choose to keep repeating the same mistakes. Hell, this game they set a record for turnovers, so they are making no progress with what they have.
    • I agree. Play calling was moving the ball and we would have scored plenty of points without our turnovers and poor execution.
  • what a fine defensive effort by your team. the defense was truly placed in a no win situation........all day long. how many years does pelini have left on his contract............ games like this certainly effect the long term health of a program......recruits, recruits, recruits. Suh is truly a man among boys.
