The previous record stood for 55 years before Bo came along and topped it twice.

  • This came from a friend of mine.....just another perspective

     Reality Check.....Husker Rant

The Internet is a wonderful tool because statistical information is there for those interested.....other than wanting to see Husker Football do well, Bo Pelini and I  have little in common....He has the coal miner mentality from Ohio  and I grew up in the land of Human and Animal medicine..... other than Memorial Stadium on 7 Saturdays a year and sharing an adjoining urinal at Marcus Theatres with the man one time, when we did "Hang" together...... we don't "Hang" together. I literally cried when Alex Henery kicked the 57 yarder to beat Colorado and when a 57 yd Hail Mary created a Miracle against Northwestern.....And I was there for the 70-31 and 59-24 Wisky drubbings....I have deep appreciation and on hand experience for both the emotional Mountains and the Valleys of Bo's, Husker Football.....

But the Internet Message boards and Talk radio are also filled with ....misinformation....and it is easy to find statistics to ...State your case.

Just a little Reality check....Over the past 100 years, there have been approximately 2075 D-1 Head Coaches.....only 8 of those coaches have won 9 games each year in their first 5 years...Tom Osborne leads the list with 25, straight 9 win seasons....Barry Switzer is second at........ 8 years in a row of 9 win seasons....Now some of you will say that was a different era....So we will just compare stats to the some 550 coaches who have tried since 1990.....Since that time, we have been in the Big 8, Big 12 and now Big 10.....Over the last 25 seasons, many coaches have had the opportunity in weak leagues..In spite of the great coaches who have tried, Bob Stoops, Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Urban Meyer, and Pete Carroll ..Boise State's Chris Peterson and Bo Pelini are the only 2 to have opened with even 5....9 win seasons.......And if Bo wins one of the next 3,  he will tie Chris as the only 2 out of....500!.....to do it their first 7 years since 12 and 13 game seasons became the norm.......  And then he would only have to do it in 2015, to have the 2nd best start since the beginning of College Football.....Tied for 2nd out of 2075 men who tried their hand at coaching 100, 18-22 year old testosterone charged males.

Hate Bo because he has yet to win win the Big one or because he screams at the kids or because he can't make game time adjustments, but don't hate him because he is not a winner, because when the only 2 names in front of you are Barry Switzer and Tom Osborne, you're doing something right.

Bo makes me angry....makes me wonder what the hell is he thinking...Just like I was angry at Tom Osborne for wondering "What the hell was he thinking", losing the first 6 times to the Sooners...As Dirk and Sipple and Shatel would tell you, OU "Owned" Osborne just like Wisky "Owns" Bo by beating him 3 out of 4 times........... and losing 38-7 in 77, 20-3 in 78, 27-7 in 85, 22-3 in 88, 41-17 in 89, 45-10 in 90 and 22-0 in 1991......and how in the hell with the greatest 4 year team in the history of College Football does Osborne get shutout and humiliated on National TV  by lowly Arizona State in 1996?

What the Hell was Dr Tom Thinking?.......

  • As long as the NCAA attendance streak continues, there will be no HC changes made.  It is up to the fans to fix this fiasco because UNL won't do it.  They are making money and that is the bottom line.  Cosgrove must be loving this defensive performance by our defensive genius.  Bo now holds some very significant NCAA defensive records and 408 yards rushing in three quarters may never be broken unless Nebraska under Bo breaks it own record.  Bo's Blackshirts each year with different players are no doubt over achievers. Throw them bones because I enjoy a good laugh especially against the FAU's of the world!

  • Nothing really surprising here.  In Bo's best years, we have been a #10-15 ranked team.  In his worst, maybe in the 30-35 range.   So you would hope that we might pull out a victory against a top 10 opponent but it would take a rare confluence of events.  I remember seeing a list of coach's records lately against top 10 and Shaw at Stanford was the only one with an exceptional record.  (Prior to this year.)

Since we have been a 10-25 or 15-25 type of team, our record of 6-7 against teams in this ranking zone would seem to bear out that the rankings seem to be an accurate picture of who we are.

    • had a typo there...I meant a 10-25 ranked team.
