Season review

First I would like to thank everyone who has kept Wacky in their thoughts. He is still fighting and I know he would have loved the bowl win!
Here is my take on the season and on the season.
Of course I feel the season as a whole is a disappointment. When you have a losing season that is all you should be.  With that being said there are things that are positive in that disappointment.

The record is just plain bad. Again with that being said some of those losses are on the coaches some are on players. I think there was a combination of things that lost games. Not covering the hail Mary correctly, not running the clock when we should have, and throw INT after INT because someone thinks you have to throw to win. Also throwing without looking at the whole field, these are all things that hurt us this year.

I believe all of these things can be fixed. Players will get better, if they are the kind of coaches I think they are, they will also learn. And players will watch tape of what they did and make notes and hopefully will make better decisions next season.

To the bowl game. Man that was a fun game to watch! After watching it again I saw a lot to be happy with.  The coaches and players made some nice in game adjustments to slow down UCLA. It shows that it can be done, since we seem to have had problems with that in the past. I think the coaches realized a few things. 1. If we run the ball with some consistency we will do well. 2. Don’t make a QB who has struggled with reading defenses, read defenses 80% of the time. 3, Our D can work against a good QB and some speed at WR. They get pressure and good things happen.

Next season is key. If we lose the same way and have another .500 or so season I think we are in trouble. However I don’t think we will. We showed we can move the ball on the ground, and with that it makes it easier getting yards through the air. We have to find an O line. They struggled many times this year. Lets hope there are guys coming in and the ones that are still here can make improvements and be a very good o line. That can solve many of our problems. Ozigbo looks like he will be a very good RB, plus we have others that may step up as well. We have some of the best WR’s in the nation IMO and we seem to keep getting them. If we can get some DE’s and keep the play of the interior what it was this year our D will shine next year. One of the biggest factors is staying healthy. If we can keep injuries to a minimum that will go a long way to helping this team.

There will be people who still want to complain about firing Bo and how the 9 and 10 win season was so important. While the 9 and 10 win season was nice, some of the other things that came with Pelini as coach was not worth the negative publicity he created. I defended him for a long time but when he did get fired he could have shown some class and left with his head high, but instead he calls the players together and shows he was not only immature but had absolutely no class. He showed it again at YSU. He just doesn’t know how to keep his temper in check. He was as big a negative to NE as he was a positive.
He is no longer our coach and we need to support the coaches and players we have. If they continue to work hard we will be fine.
As always Go Big Red!
