I took the day off tomorrow, so I'd figure I'd post this. K-State is number 3 in the BCS heading into the last week of October. They've beaten Oklahoma and West Virginia on the road, completely shutting down Geno Smith. Their QB is now being hyped as a serious Heisman candidate. He was recruited only by K-State, Air Force, Colorado St, and Utah. Their best receiver, Tyler Lockett, had offers from K-State and Kansas.
Question: I have been very hard on Pelini and his group for not recruiting well, however, is that really the problem?
K-State is not exactly a top 5 recruiter. Does K-State prove that coaching is the key? Is Bill Snyder really a football coaching genius (the numbers certainly prove it)? The program fell apart in his absence, and now they are better than ever with his return.
So what's the deal? What does K-State have that Nebraska doesn't? Recruits? Coaching?

Ron Zook - Are you kidding me? Great recruiter but end of story.
I had predicted that our TX recruiting base would take a hit with TAM joining the SEC and UNL going to the BIG.
To date UNL has ZERO State of TX recruits and TAM is ranked #10 by Rivals.
Past performance is not always about future results but this most certainly is a "hit" for Bo to overcome.
From my point of view the Big 12 has been overrated for YEARS. Look what ND (a team that did not dominate Purdue, MSU or Michigan) just did to Oklahoma.
Maybe it's just the turnovers. We have the talent to have beaten Wisconsin and Northwestern comfortably, but fumbles kept them in it. We gave up two TDs to Ohio State off of INTs.
Turnovers are a coaching issue in my opinion. Coaches need to drill into players to ensure they make the right decisions, how to hold onto the ball, and live to see another down.
I don't remember how many times or if we coughed the rock up against UCLA. What I do know, is Pelini and his staff were outcoached bigtime in that game.
Turnovers and penalties are coaching. Plus, even if Martinez fumbles but we don't lose the ball and technically it isn't a turnover, it is happening way too many times. Those plays are wasted downs, usually with a loss of yards.
And Tomko, I absolutely agree Bo was outcoached by (cough cough, choke, spit spit) Jim Mora. They had the Huskers number from the first set of downs. Michigan will also if Bo doesn't come up with something innovative
good point Tomko and it may be a combination of several things
one thing that probably doesn't help is not having a huddle where someone can say 200 right 22 counter on 3 and everyone knows the play and snap count instead of 11 players looking to the sideline and each determines the play for himself from the hot signal caller and a tackle may slant left and let a DE go unblocked on a pass play or a tight end might run into a pulling guard or false start or some other confusion
but hey as confusing as it may be we get a lot of offensive plays and possesions with this experimental system
unfortunately so does the opponent

It is a great question and exactly what occurred to me when I saw this weeks BCS rankings. How in the world does K-State out do Nebraska in ANYTHING?!?!? I think Bo is getting out recruited. Especially on offense.
