Huskers vs. Merryland Prediction Thread!

The Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to Merry Land to take on the Terrapins for a Saturday afternoon contest at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.

The Terrapins were originally called the 'Old Liners' - a reference to the State's nickname but were eventually renamed after the Diamond Back Terrapins - which are green slimy creatures in the Chesapeake Bay region.  The Turtles/Terrapins/Chelonians/Tortoises/Sliders or whatever those creepy, slimy green things are....have an actual mascot....Testudo, which has been the official school mascot for the last 80 years or so.

This is a battle of Nebraska, who is 4-6 and struggling to find themselves, and Merry-Land, who started the season blowing out some teams before staggering to a 3-7 season record.  Will WanDale play?  Will AMart play like his old self?  Will the Blackshirts show up?

Gametime forecast is in the mid 40's with scattered showers which means absolutely nothing except that fans may wish to bring some Peppermint Schnapps or some other adult beverage.

The old Crystal Ball has been dusted off and after a cloudy first glance, the image has cleared and it says the Huskers will break the current 4 game losing streak.  The Ouija Board sez the first one to 30 points wins.  And that means the Huskers get to host the Iowaaaaaaaay Crows next week for a home game to decide a bowl game fate.

Final Score:

         Herbie Huskers              -          35

          Merry Hardbacks         -           28

  • So.... Vegas opens this game at NU by 7.5. It QUICKLY drops to 4-4.5. Now it has climbed back up to 5. With the over/under at 62.....gets the feel of a 35-30 type game.

Nebraska is 1-9 against the spread. Can you believe that? It almost hard to be that poor on the Vegas numbers. Which likely means....consistently inconsistent. Even the "experts" have little clue where to put the line. Almost like it continues to be on potential, and it rarely comes to fruition.

As is typically the case, the "must win" card is being played regularly. Pretty much since Purdue which was incorrect. But we have reached that point if.....the team truly cares about a bowl invite. Could it really come down to a game vs lowly IA to make a successful season? Hawkeye fans would be ROYALLY snickering seeing pandemonium in Memorial in a victory to go to the Quick Lane or Pinstripe Bowl at 6-6.

As a fan, I always want to see them win. But is a bowl THAT important? Maybe 12 practices (not the always mentioned 15) with the Holidays to navigate and short turnaround to a crappy bowl. We now have an early signing period that has actually turned into the "real" signing period from Dec 19-21st. Coaches trying to recruit while in Detroit or NY? Partial staffs running practices? What's the major benefit to the program....building the future depth and talent or playing a low tier bowl game?

Comparable stats? Rush Defense: NU 93rd MD 85th. Pass Defense: NU 54th MD: 107th. Total Defense: NU 82nd MD 106th. Besides Rutgers, Maryland's offense has been poor since they rolled Syracuse. They scored 48 vs the Scarlet Knights....but 90 points in the other 7 games since the Orange. 13pts/game. Logic would say we are better than Rutgers...but not likely to keep them pinned down whatsoever.

Using TomOs math, MD scored 48 vs Rutgers. 13 average the rest. 61 total/2= 31pts. LOL.

Regardless, I think we take care of business. Mills did look quick and confident. Adrian looked fairly decisive. The Prophet looking for back to back weeks and says: "the Huskers ain't goin' 1-10 vs the spread". So load up.

    NU 45

    MD 30

  • I have watched little or hardly anything of the Turtles.. so this is just a shot in the dark. With all the ?? of players who may not play or not at 100%, can our D really stop anyone when necessary, can our O sustain a meaning full drive to save a game?? We need to show some improvement in both areas, going into the, as Craw said the Crows (like that) Friday game, momentum is absolutely necessary. To think we can play with them, if not it will be a Black Friday for our beloved team.

    The Red- 31

the other team with the confusing unis- 24

  • It's time for Nebraska's annual how the hell did they win it game. In a game that shocks all the college football Nebraska actually shows up to play 4 quarters and wins by a cat's whisker 38 to 36
