Hi I am new to the board, I am just wondering if there any Nebraska fans like me in here, if not whats your story? I started following Nebraska as a kid because I liked there style of play, I love option, they had a walk on program, they seemed to value players with heart more than athletic ability. Tom Osbourne said some of these players may not have the greatest athletic ability but they will die for you. From than on I fell in love with the program, because they were a program were they would take good fundamentals, incredibily strong work ethic, and team players over Size, and athleticism, if they had to choose. Were I live, the DC area they believe its all about size and speed, I liked Nebraska becaue I felt like there is a program out there that thinks like me. I am also wondering if there is a Nebraska fan out there like me that has one; never been to Nebraska, never been to a home game or away game, can count all the Husker fans he knows on one hand, and can count all the husker fans he meet on both.

  • Well I live in Colorado, so I think when I really became a Nebraska fan was when my cousins moved from Nebraska to Colorado and just started spending time with them watching what games we could get on the tv out here. But I love being a husker fan even if it means being made fun of by all the CU people out here, it just makes it that much more fun when we beat them! ha ha
  • Thanks for the respect, with me its the fans in Nebraska and the passion got me to like the team. There philosophy did too. When Bill Callahan went to Nebraska I have to say it was a huge blow to me. I don't like them because of affilation, I have none. I liked them because of passion, and they have the same principels that I have. Walk on program you can find talent from any were, what you are now doesn't mean thats what you will be tommorow. The principels of hardwork and pride that symbolize this program really got me to like it. When that AD said we need to change philosophy I took it as a major blow because I felt like my philosophy has also failed. But I am really happy that Bo is here and he has the same prinicipel of hard work, integrity, and teaching that the old regime use to have. I got to say I am really happy that Tom is back, even if he is not the coach. This program we will be back I think and will be kicking ass again.

  • 1969 I went to my first home town high school football game. Our team colors were red and white. Until that game, I was 7 at the time, I had never seen a football game even on TV. Well, after seeing that game, I instantly fell in love with the sport. The next day, I turned on the TV and guess who was playing. The CORNHUSKERS. I don't remember who we were playing,, but I do remember we won big.. Every since that day I have been a Husker fan. I was born and raised in Illinois and I now live in the Northwest Territories of Canada. I have never been to a Husker game, however I raised all 4 of my kids right and they all live and breath Husker Football. We are in the process of making plans to travel to Lincoln this fall for a game, maybe K-State or I-State. If anybody knows a good source to find 6 tickets all together I would really appreciate it.

I think back on all of my fondest NU moments and I still believe that watching us win the "Game of the Century" was the best.
