Don't say that I didn' warn you all!

We ARE NOT going to win a national championship in this era with:

1) A freshman QB.
2) A one dimensional offense.

Our schedule is pathetic...only unranked Texas, OKSU and MU stand between us and a 12-0 regular season.

Would any of these 3 teams strike fear into the hearts of OU, OSU, Oregon, Boise, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, TCU, Michigan State, etc?

OF COURSE NOT.

To date we have played 5 crappy teams. We do not deserve our ranking.

One only need look at the UM vs. MSU game last weekend to realize that even a good, but not great, defense like MSU can stone cold shut down a threat like Denard Robinson (longest gain 12 yards) or Taylor Martinez because these two cannot throw the ball effectively.

  • When you score only 6 offensive points, you probably will not win many games.
  • That was then and this is now. App State is playing the way they were before the Michigan game.

We are ranked 16th in the country with the BCS and at least the computer believes that we are a quality program, unlike some of us.

The locker room and practice field will be filled with the blood of our guys trying to fix what is broken and move forward. The program is on the move and I have faith in Bo and Crew to get the ship righted for the next game. Texas is done and with it comes the knowledge that in our last run through the Big 12 that we are still Texas's bitch. We just bend over and take it when they come to town. It sucks and it hurts, because we were 3 catches away from beating them. We can't get them back in the near future, so we have to move forward.

I see that you haven't fixed your keyboard yet...
  • Many of us in Big Ten country were surprised by the Huskers loss. Still think Nebraska will have a very good year though.
    • Reality check...when you are trying to beat Texas in the 4th quarter with Zac Lee and Rex Burkhead in the backfield you are NOT a Top 10 team.

We are most definitely a Top 25 team.

Ben's Spartans have a very good QB in Kirk Cousins (the all time leader passing efficiency leader in MSU history), 3 EXCELLENT RBs (Baker, Bell and Capers) who are all true freshmen and sophomores, 3 outstanding receivers (Mark Dell, BJ Cunningham and Keyshawn Johnson), 4 outstanding TEs of whom only one (starter Charlie Gantt of ND OT fame) is a senior, another who is the brother of the Eagles starting TE Celek and another who has major legal issues. Their 4th WR is ex-MSU and Oklahoma QB Keith Nichol.

They have an OL that is comparable to NU's. They have 3 outstanding LBs including a first team All-American, Greg Jones. 4 DBs each of whom got a TO vs. IL and a young DL that is solid against the run and improving their pass rush.

They have a first year Soph kicker who has 13 or 14 straight FGS and has NEVER missed a kick plus an excellent punter. They have excellent KRs and excellent coverage against kicks.

The play hard for 60 minutes and have an outstanding HC who doesn't not blow his cork like a certain graduate of Cardinal Mooney HS. They are physical on both sides of the ball.

Their coach is in his 4th year after replacing a true jackass, John L Smith. They compete for in state talent with the most successful football program in the history of major college football.

Our coach is in his 3rd year. Will he have all the pieces in place in 2011 when we join the B10?

This is what it takes to be in the Top 10 these days; yet that MSU team may not do any better than 6-2 in the B10 at years end.

The overview of the Wisconsin, OSU and Iowa programs is not meaningfully different.

Now...where do we stand in comparison?
      • You know your stuff, Tom! Time will tell with the Spartans. Coach Dantonio and the other coaches are doing a great job so far. The team seem focused. Cousin's mantra is go 1-0 every Saturday. The players don't seem to be looking ahead. We shall see. At least they are headed in the right direction. Nebraska is too.
      • I would have to agree totally in the future looks bright. Before the start of the season i was laughted at work and in this room when i said nebraska would be favored to win the game but texas scared me alot. then texas lost two games and had two weeks to prepare for nebraska I got a real bad feeling.. Nebraska winning a national championship with a freshmen qb is only possible if they had a great great great team( i dont thing this team is great yet). I would have to agree with tom if nebraska can get a good recruiting class, the qb and the rest of the team get some experience against some good football teams and bo gets another of experience the future looks bright in the big ten.
  • We still have a long way to go and Martinez was pulled to get a change of pace in the game. We needed a change of pace, because our pace was dead stop. The spark that Lee brought was the ability to spread the field enough to make Texas think we were going to do something different.

I still think that Lee is the one who should be on the field, I've said so since the beginning. Our run defense is still weak and our coordinators saw that TMart could run like the wind against our starters, so they saw the stars in their eyes and thought, we might be able to run the ball, like days of yore.

Our season is not over, but I think that Pelini and crew need to look into teaching Magic the spread a little better, and tell him to learn that there is a time to run and a time to pass and most importantly, when to hand the damn ball off. He is as much of a ball hog as Crouch was the first couple years and that cost us a few games as well. Once he learns that his arm can throw the ball around, provided our receivers remember how to catch the ball, he will be in business.

I think that we can still have the Big 12 North title, but not so sure about the overall Big 12 title.

I think our season went from a Championship Contender to a rebuilding year and trying to find our identity for the offense. We could lose, as i said at the beginning of the year, 3 games this year. That is not all that bad.

And Tom, Bo doesn't beat up on any Pussies that didn't ask to play us. They know what the potential issues are when they come in. He didn't create the system of loading up pansies in Non-conference play, so he has to play the hand he is dealt. We are all playing the hands that are dealt us, and until somebody comes up with a better plan, we'll keep it up and hope we don't have an App State moment like Michigan did.
    • The problem is that we were trying to find our identity on offense last year too! And that is why we won't get any bigtime recruits on the offensive side of the ball. Who will commit when we are always changing $h!t trying to come up with a new master plan. Bottom line is it's not about the X's and O's, it's about the Jimmy's and Joe's.

App State would have beaten many Div 1 teams that year...perhaps even NU.
