Change of philosophy is needed.

Bo, the coaching staff, and the players had no answers for why they continue to have the same breakdowns after the Ohio St game, may I suggest a change of philosophy is needed? After the game it was quite revealing to hear Taylor Martinez say that the game didn't matter because all of our goals were still ahead of us. Excuse me? Not all of our goals are ahead of us. I would like to think that competing at a top notch level would be one of the goals and we have not for the past several years. Maybe it is just me, but I do like to think that every game matters. It also seems like that when Nebraska encounters adversity in a game, the every game doesn't matter seems to rear its head because the team seems to shrug their shoulders and say, well we won't win this game, so let's try again next game because this game really doesn't matter. Maybe that is the reason behind the inconsistent play under Bo. Also Bo needs to take a hard look at his program. Why does the defense look so confused so many times at the snap of the ball? Is the scheme so complicated that players who have been in the system for years still don't understand it? If so, you need to change it to fit your recruits. Also look at your coaches, I mean really look at them and do an honest evaluation. Are their groups performing at the level you demand? In my opinion some would be no. In all honesty, was it really smart to have 2 coordinators with no experience and no proven recruiting clout? I feel that until these issues are addressed that we are just an average program.

  • Did we even interview for DC?  Did we reach out to Mark Stoops or Ron Zook?  Zook can recruit by the way and took Illinois to the Rose Bowl.  The reason the program has any connection at all to Bo Pelini was because he was brought in from the OUTSIDE to fix something that needed to be fixed.

We have a defensive line with three upper classmen, including two seniors, and I never hear their names called.  Where is the player development in the program?  Is it that unreasonable to expect a player to be vastly improved in their senior year when compared to their freshman year?  Eric Martin and Will Compton are the only ones doing anything.  Martin is sometimes too aggressive and outta control at times, but it's better to have a guy you have to hold back rather than push foward.

Clearly the defense is not prepared.  I guess the question of the day is is Papuchis being "set up" for failure?

    • What's Tom been sayin about the Bo KoolAid for the past 3+ years?

As skeptical as I am re his ability to win championships the BIG is such a mess this year that anything can still happen.

Northwestern is the perfect test at the perfect time.

Let's see how our team responds.

  • very good points by all I especially agree with your last argument Saber

when quality experienced people with proven ideas and pholosophies were available we 'promoted' from within

even though Bo is a great defensive mind he needs to be the head coach and not a  co-coordinator

you can say it was only one game but you can also argue its a trend

pound the rock eat the clock GBR

  • Laying eggs in big games on national TV has now become who we are, apparently.

This won't cut it for Husker Nation any longer, I don't believe.

I have been as big a supporter of Bo as there is but we ought to at least be competitive against a team that was 5-7 last year and has an entirely new coaching staff.  Sheesh.
